Stake Land

Just watched Stake Land (or Vampire Nation, as it’s called incongruously in Germany). A slow mixture between apocalyptic road movie and Vampire/Zombie flick. It doesn’t care about any common dramaturgy or storyline. It’s straight simple, yet beautiful shot, greatly acted and impressively scored. It’s atmosphere is tense and at its core-subtext, it’s about being human and about growing up – and it doesn’t want to be anything more than that.

True, it’s nothing you haven’t probably seen before. But if you let yourself go, then its desperate mood and great composition makes it an immersive movie experience that despite (or better: because) it’s straightness works out perfectly.

If you’re in postapocalyptic or Zombie-flicks (there is really not much vamprism in there) and have a faible for more silent movies that can speak without many words, give it a try.
